Ciao! I’m officially still “in ferie,” but I’m popping in to share this recording of my conversation with my friends and colleagues Frank Fariello, who writes the newsletter Memorie di Angelina, and Giovanna Solimando, author of the newsletter My Half-Apulian Table.
The three of us hosted a Substack Live yesterday, in which we dug into our favorite Italian summer recipes and cooking techniques, from raw and minimally cooked preparations to grilling, and from sweet and savory preserves to summer pastas and breads using herbs, leaves, and edible flowers from the garden. Click on the video at the top of this post to view and listen to the full conversation (60 minutes).
Below I’m sharing links to some summer recipes from the Buona Domenica archives, including several mentioned in our conversation. Be sure to also check out Giovanna’s newsletter and Frank’s newsletter for lots more inspiration.
1. Mozzarella, Cherry Tomato, and Olive Antipasto
2. Zucchini Fritters with Feta and Fresh Herbs
5. Sicilian Potato Salad with Wild Oregano
6. BLT Pasta Salad with Caper Dressing
7. Eggplant and Rice Timballo (my personal favorite)
9. Brown Sugar Peach Preserves
10. Cinnamon-Spiked Fig Sorbetto
I’d love to know how you have been preserving and otherwising enjoying summer food. The season is fleeting, so let’s make the most of it!
My inspired illustrator Daniela and I will be back at the beginning of September with fresh art and recipes to lead us into fall. Till then, be well and eat well!
A presto,
Domenica
