The evolution of stablecoins has moved far beyond their original role in crypto trading. Today, they are fast becoming a preferred payment alternative for businesses, institutions, and even government

📊 Let’s start with a few facts (source: Artemis analytics report):

  • Nearly $100B in stablecoin payments were processed between Jan 2023 and Feb 2025

  • ~50% of that volume is B2B

  • USDT dominates with ~90% market share

  • TRON is the most used network

  • The top sending countries include USA, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, and the UK

Stablecoins are emerging as a serious alternative to SWIFT, SEPA, and other traditional rails—offering faster, cheaper, and borderless transactions. Most are still USD-backed, reinforcing the dollar’s role as the global reserve currency in a digital-first world.

🌍 Why are stablecoins taking over?
* They eliminate third-party friction in international payments
* They provide a hedge in inflation-heavy economies (e.g., Colombia and parts of Latin America)
* They are increasingly seen as more reliable than local banking infrastructure in certain markets

🧭 Geopolitical context matters For the US, keeping the dollar’s dominance matters. That’s why US-backed stablecoins like USDT and USDC or event USD1 are not just tolerated—they’re strategically important. These tokens extend USD reach globally in ways traditional banking can’t.

💳 Even TradFi is adapting Payment giants like Visa, Mastercard, and Stripe are integrating stablecoin functionality. Why? Because clients want cheaper and faster settlement, especially for cross-border B2B transactions.

🇦🇪 Case study: UAE The UAE is quickly positioning itself as a hub for digital asset innovation:

  • First Abu Dhabi Bank recently announced a stablecoin initiative

  • Crypto.com is working with the government to enable crypto payments for public services

With its strategic position bridging Asia, Europe, and the US, integrating stablecoins into the UAE’s financial infrastructure isn’t just logical—it’s necessary.

In short, stablecoins are no longer just a crypto tool. They are the infrastructure for the next wave of global finance.
