The only long-term strategy in Web3 is authenticity. Do things with intention, not ego. Build value for others without expecting an immediate return.

After more than a decade in the traditional corporate world and over 8 years in Web3, one truth stands out: the balance between capital and influence is one of the most important dynamics shaping our industry.

Capital as the Gatekeeper

In traditional finance, capital was everything.

It was the entry ticket, the gatekeeper. Without money, you couldn’t enter, scale, or compete. Every decision started and ended with: Who has the capital?

Influence as the Ignition Key

Web3 rewrites this rulebook. Today, influence often comes before capital.

Communities, narratives, and trusted leaders ignite momentum.

Credible founders and respected KOLs drive adoption, token demand, and even valuations well before large checks are written.

I’ve seen projects grow almost entirely on the conviction of a few influential voices. A single founder or community can spark momentum that capital then follows.

On the other hand, I’ve also seen projects with massive funding but no cultural resonance fail to gain traction.

👉 In this new game: capital amplifies, but influence ignites.

A few examples:

🧩 Hyperliquid — Influence Earned through Product

Hyperliquid is the perfect example of capital following influence built on credibility. It didn’t start with hype or big venture backing — it started with product excellence.

A group of builders quietly built something traders trusted. The community spread the word. Their influence was organic, earned through real users and performance.

Only later did capital flow in — to scale what already worked.

💥 Aster — Influence as the Driver of Capital

Aster shows the opposite dynamic.

It gained attention not because of product maturity, but because a few influential voices started to speak about it. Momentum exploded overnight — trading volumes, attention, valuation — all surged before the fundamentals were even tested.

That’s the power of narrative capital: when influence moves markets faster than money.

The Smart Marketing Dilemma

Founders face two choices when going to market:

Spend big on agencies, services, and large teams.

Get the right people who design the right GTM strategy and connect you directly to the right partners.

The second path almost always wins in Web3. It’s not about burning cash — it’s about leveraging trusted influence.

What Influence Really Means

Over the years, speaking on dozens of panels, attending hundreds of events, and building communities, I’ve learned that:

Influence isn’t about vanity metrics or follower counts.

It’s about the circle of trust you build.

It’s the friends, partners, and supporters who engage when timing matters most.

It’s the credibility you earn through consistency and authenticity.

And here’s the key: you don’t sell or shill what you don’t believe in. That’s the fastest way to lose influence.

We live in a “creator economy,” where attention is scarce. What cuts through the noise isn’t paid campaigns, but smart, authentic engagement.

The Strategy That Works Today

The only long-term strategy in Web3 is authenticity.

Do things with intention, not ego.

Build value for others without expecting an immediate return.

Support your partners and portfolio companies out of genuine belief — because when influence is rooted in trust, capital will always find its way in.

Don’t count how many follow you. Count how many people you truly respect, and how many of them would stand by you when it matters.

It’s simple: if you meet someone you’d like to build with, ask yourself how you can be valuable to them. Deliver consistently out of goodwill. In time, they will circle back when you need them most.

Final Thought

Web3 is rewriting the rules. Capital still matters, but it no longer leads — it follows.

🚀 The future belongs to those who can:

Ignite with influence

Amplify with capital

Do it all with authenticity

That’s how ecosystems scale. That’s how tribes are being built.
