Everywhere I Go I See You!

Sunsets…

Rich Mullins has a song entitled, “I See You!” The key phrase of the song is, “Everywhere I go I see You.” I love this song. It often echoes and replays in my mind when I see God’s beauty or glory in something I see. In fact, I have it playing as I am typing this blog. I would encourage you to check it out if you get a chance. I think you will like it.

In my last blog post, I shared about seeing a red-headed finch at my sister’s house in Kingsland, TX. This red-headed finch reminded me of the beauty and the complexity and the glory of God’s creation. In that blog, I also mentioned that I have tended to see God’s hand in sunsets and then, later in my life, in sunrises. I am also going to mention that I love flowers, and I see the touch of God’s hand in their beauty and in their diversity. I will share more about this in my next blog post.

For today, I want to focus on sunsets, and really on one sunset in particular. When I see a beautiful sunset, I believe that God painted it just for me—well, okay, for us! He loves sharing His glory and His beauty with us, and I believe He delights when we see Him and His hand in the beauty of it all. I think we bless God when we recognize Him and thank Him when we see His hand and glory in the world around us.

Many years ago, at the conclusion of a mission trip to Costa Rica, Debi and I and our youngest son, Brett, had the blessing of extending our trip by a few days and going to Playa Tamarindo, which is not too far away from Santa Cruz and Liberia, where we would do our mission work. Brett and I had the amazing adventure of experiencing the challenge of boogie boarding in eight- to ten-foot waves! But also, on one of those days, we walked about a mile down the beach to a point where we could watch the sunset.

It was a glorious sunset, and then we began to walk back to our hotel. As we were walking back, the tide was going out, and there was a unique low cloud cover. Instead of standing and watching the sunset off in the distance, it felt as if we had become a part of the sunset. The sunset seemed to engulf us!!! Brett took a picture, and that is the picture which accompanies this blog post. The picture most certainly doesn’t fully capture it, but it can certainly bring back the memory for each one of us, and perhaps, as you look at the picture, you can get just a sense of what I am seeking to describe.

This was truly a gift from God! It was such a blessing to get to experience it, and then to experience it with Debi and with Brett. God is so good!

I pray that I can always have eyes of faith so that everywhere I go I will see Him, and that I will recognize His hand and His glory and that I will also take a moment to give Him thanks and praise.
