I hope your week has been treating you well—though I know the world can feel overwhelming at times. Remember: you are capable, and you deserve to focus on what moves you forward.

As for me, this unseasonably early summer has kept me busy. It’s only April, yet temperatures are already climbing into the 90s, and my garden has surged to life nearly a month ahead of schedule. For those who don’t know, I maintain a sizable garden—medicinal herbs, fruit trees, berry bushes, and a greenhouse—all requiring careful attention. With rainfall becoming increasingly scarce in my region, I’ve had to take irrigation into my own hands to keep everything thriving.

Speaking of, if you’re interested in herbal medicine, Archaeobotany, plant myths and legends, check out my other (new) publication, The Wise Weed. Shameless plug over…

This week, I’m sharing a few Kickstarter campaigns I’ve been backing—and yes, these are all kickstarter projects. If you’re looking for fresh RPGs, solo adventures, or tabletop innovations, these might just be worth your attention.

Let’s dive in.

If you love the dark, chaotic vibes of MÖRK BORG but don’t always have a GM to guide you through its grim world, then SOLO BORG might just be your next obsession. This Kickstarter project promises a toolkit designed to let you experience the doom-laden, metal-as-hell RPG without needing a game master.

Created by The Soloist (who also brought us Solo Scarlet Heroes and Ironsworn Solo), SOLO BORG is a set of tables, oracles, and procedures that let you play MÖRK BORG completely on your own. If you’re familiar with solo RPG tools like Mythic GM Emulator, this works similarly—but with that signature MÖRK BORG flavor: brutal, random, and dripping with apocalyptic style.

  • Play Anytime, Anywhere – No GM? No problem. SOLO BORG gives you the tools to generate adventures, NPCs, and disasters on the fly.

  • Still 100% MÖRK BORG – It keeps the game’s core feel—unfair, weird, and hilarious in the most macabre way.

  • Compatible with Other Stuff – Works with MÖRK BORG’s existing supplements, so you can mix in Cyanide Palace, Heretic, or whatever else you’ve got.

  • Physical & Digital Options – A sleek, digest-sized booklet (with that classic MÖRK BORG aesthetic) or a PDF if you want it fast.

The campaign is already blowing past its initial goal (because of course it is—solo RPGs are hot right now). More backers mean more stretch goals, like expanded tables, additional solo scenarios, and maybe even some community-driven content.

If you’ve ever wanted to wander the dying world of MÖRK BORG alone—making terrible decisions and suffering glorious consequences—SOLO BORG looks like the perfect way to do it. The campaign is live now, so if this sounds like your kind of misery, check it out before the world ends (or the funding period does).

Urban Battle: A Gritty, Tactical RPG for Street-Level Heroes

You know me and wargame style games, especially ones that off unique experiences. If you’ve been craving a fast-paced, tactical RPG with a street-level, urban crime vibe, then Urban Battle might be your next obsession. This Kickstarter project promises a sleek, rules-light system built for intense skirmishes, heists, and gang wars—all set in a gritty, modern cityscape.

Designed by The Red Room (the folks behind KUF and Lost in the Fantasy World), Urban Battle is a GM-driven RPG where players take on the roles of criminals, vigilantes, or law enforcement in a brutal concrete jungle. Think John Wick meets The Wire—tense shootouts, back-alley deals, and high-stakes urban survival.

  • Fast, Tactical Combat – Uses a grid-based system with cover, suppression fire, and brutal melee.

  • Simple but Deep – Streamlined rules keep the action flowing, but with enough crunch to make every decision matter.

  • Sandbox Play – Run heists, turf wars, or desperate escapes with procedural mission generation.

While Urban Battle isn’t officially a solo RPG, it’s ridiculously easy to adapt for lone wolves. With some simple tweaks—like using an oracle for enemy actions or randomizing mission objectives—you can absolutely dive into this urban warzone solo. (I’ll be covering exactly how in a future post—stay tuned!)

  • A Ton of Work Went Into This – The rulebook looks polished, with clean layouts, tactical maps, and plenty of tables for generating jobs, enemies, and chaos.

  • Flexible Playstyles – Run it as a one-shot, campaign, or even a solo challenge.

  • Physical & Digital Options – Get a slick softcover or PDF, plus extra goodies like printable tokens and mission cards.

If you love tactical, street-level action with minimal fluff and maximum tension, Urban Battle looks like a killer addition to your RPG shelf. And even though it’s designed for group play, solo gamers won’t have much trouble making it work—which I’ll prove soon!

Gorgon’s Wake: A Mythic Horror RPG Where the Past Hunts You

I’ve been sitting under a rock when it comes to this one. Playin catchup over here. But if you love Greek mythology twisted into cosmic horror, then Gorgon’s Wake is about to wreck your nerves in the best way. This new Kickstarter from The Grinning Frog (the same folks behind The Electrum Archive) is a story-driven, GM-less SOLO RPG where you play doomed heroes hunted by an ancient curse—and every decision drags you closer to your fate.

Inspired by tragic Greek epics and folk horror, this game pits you against The Gorgon’s Curse, a creeping doom that warps reality and turns your past sins into monsters.

  • GM-Less, But Not Solo (At Least Not Officially) – Designed for 2-5 players, the game uses shared storytelling and rotating scene control. But with a few tweaks (like solo oracles for the Gorgon’s moves), this could absolutely be a terrifying one-player experience. (I’ll dig into solo play in a future post!)

  • Your Past Comes Alive – Your character’s Regrets manifest as horrors, forcing you to confront them or be consumed.

  • Beautifully Bleak Aesthetic – The art is stunning—think Annihilation meets Jason and the Argonauts, all dripping with eerie, ink-washed dread.

  • A Labor of Love – The creators have clearly poured years of work into this, from the haunting prose to the meticulously crafted doom clocks that track your descent.

  • Flexible & Atmospheric – Works for one-shots or long-form tragedy, with mechanics that bleed theme.

  • Physical & Digital Editions – A gorgeous hardcover for your shelf or a PDF to devour immediately.

If you want a mythic horror RPG that feels like a cursed epic poem, Gorgon’s Wake is shaping up to be something special. And while it’s technically GM-less co-op, I’m already scheming ways to suffer through it solo.

Nautical Nomad: A Solo Roll-and-Write Adventure on the High Seas

Last on my list, a possible new favorite added to the list. If you’ve got a love for nautical adventures (like I do—give me salty waves, creaking ship decks, and uncharted islands any day), then Nautical Nomad is about to become your new obsession. This Kickstarter project is a solo roll-and-write RPG that lets you captain your own ship, brave storms, and hunt for treasure—all with just a handful of dice and a sheet of paper.

Created by Venture Forth Games, this is a lightweight but immersive game where you:

  • Command Your Ship – Manage supplies, crew morale, and repairs while navigating treacherous waters.

  • Discover the Unknown – Chart islands, encounter mysterious sea creatures, and uncover lost relics.

  • Survive the Odds – Random events keep every voyage unpredictable, from pirate attacks to supernatural storms.

And because it’s a roll-and-write, it’s perfect for quick, satisfying sessions—whether you’ve got 20 minutes or two hours.

  • Pure Solo Sailing Goodness – No GM needed. Just you, the open ocean, and whatever fate the dice deliver.

  • Easy to Learn, Hard to Put Down – Simple mechanics with enough depth to keep each voyage fresh.

  • Endless Replayability – Procedural generation means no two journeys are alike.

  • Nautical Nerds Rejoice! – The theme is so well-executed, from ship upgrades to the thrill of spotting land after weeks at sea.

As someone who loves nautical games (seriously, give me a ship log and a sextant, and I’m happy for hours), Nautical Nomad looks like an absolute gem. It’s the kind of game you can play curled up with a coffee, imagining the wind in your sails—without needing a full RPG group.

And that’s it for this week, I hope you find the games above to your liking. There are no doubt many that I’m missing, but I can’t back them all sadly. Take care of yourselves, breathe deep and let it out for a bit. Nothing wrong with sitting with yourself and looking around your life, seeing what needs adjusting and what needs dusting off. Watch out for one another, and I’ll see you next week…
