The regular season for the Dominican Summer League wrapped up the other day, with neither Pirates team making the playoffs. You can’t always take the numbers put up down there at face value, but they do provide at least a benchmark when figuring out who might be worth monitoring going forward.
The Pirates have had some strong performances over the past couple of seasons in the DSL, with players who have eventually transitioned to the States and become some of the top prospects in the system.
Looking back at this year, here are some of the top performers from this past season in the DSL for the Pirates:
If the name looks familiar, it should. Wilton’s dad played in the majors, and his uncle is Hall of Famer Vladimir Guerrero Sr (his cousin, Vlad Jr). He received the largest bonus in the Pirates’ signing class this year, and put together a solid debut season in the DSL.
