Gameday 121: Pirates head to Miami to face the Marlins

After a day off, the Pittsburgh Pirates will head to Miami for a three-game road series against the Marlins. They wrapped up a stretch of 17 games without a day off in which the Pirates went 5-12.

Paul Skenes will be on the mound for the series opener. He posted a 8.16 ERA in three starts during that stretch of 17 straight games. The Pirates themselves were in the thick of the Wild Card race when that stretch of games began, but are fading quickly.

They play these three games against the Marlins on the road before heading back to Pittsburgh for series against the Red Sox and the Tigers.

Miami will have Eury Perez on the mound. This will be the third time that Perez has faced the Pirates. He struck out nine over six shutout innings the first time, while allowing four runs over three innings pitched last year.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 pm ET.

Murphy 8/4 — Ronaldo Gallo’s first outing with Bradenton left a lot to be desired, but he bounced back and put together a much better second appearance. He even lit up the Stuff+ models with his cutter/slider. He was hit hard in the first start, but allowed one run on two hits over three innings against Fort Myers.
