When I think about creative spaces, my heart hurts, and my soul aches. I know that sounds dramatic, but there’s truth in it.
I spent about seven years freelancing in New York, bouncing between studios of every size. Big ones in Soho. Tiny ones in Brooklyn. Mid-sized setups in Chelsea.
The best ones all had one thing in common. They were designed to nurture creativity and collaboration.
They were beautiful. Open spaces. Big white walls. Oversized tables. Room to move, to think, to make.
I’ve been obsessed with creative space ever since.
My home office has always been my sacred space. It’s where I make a living, support my family, and grow as a creative. But it’s always just been a room. A corner in a house. An extra space in an apartment.
And honestly, that gets to me sometimes.
I believe that our environment is stronger than our willpower. If you want to do meaningful work, you have to shape the space around you to support it.
Don’t underestimate the power of a creative space. It might be the edge you’ve been looking for.
As for me, I’m making do with what I have. Taking small steps. Moving things around. Building a space that works for the now.
But I’m still dreaming. Tall ceilings. Big tables. Large white walls.
Someday.
