Let’s dive in 👇🏼

Anytime I recommend a product made from plastic, I get a least a few comments from people worried about microplastics.

Ah the old “final boss” burn. You’re so clever and unique, Gen Z.

Often, they cite this study that supposedly proved that people consume a credit cards worth of plastic each week.

This sounds scary, but it also seems impossible.

For example, none of my plastic cutting boards have credit card sized holes in them.

Here’s the problem: the vast majority of people never read past the headline, never mind the primary source material (the actual study).

And the idea that you’re eating a credit card’s worth of plastic each week is just too sticky.

You really can’t trust headlines from media companies like CNN, Fox, etc.

This talking point went viral. The record cannot be corrected.

The underlying problem is that media literacy is at an all time low, while media output is at an all time high.

The solution? Learn how to evaluate sources and fact check by watching this excellent video:

Hank uses the microplastics study as an example, but you can apply this system to any scientific sounding headline you come across.

This is a crucial skill that most people lack. I’m going to teach my kids how to do this!

Dads: I know you’re tired. Me too.

Whenever you’re feeling overwhelmed by your kids, or too beat to pick them up and swing them around one more time, remember this:

One day, you’ll want this back.

You’ll give anything to relive today, to rough house with your toddler one more time.

You’re probably sick of hearing well-meaning but forgetful older folks tell you that “the days are long, but the years are short”.

Same.

But they’re right! This period is temporary and precious.

Savor it.

You are not stressed from doing too much. You are stressed from doing too little of what you care about.
