In this video of our first-ever episode of Broad Collective Live (trademark pending), I interview Jenny McCoy, founder and head of strategy at Goodhelp, a digital ad buying agency in Brooklyn.
I wanted to interview Jenny because a) she is brilliant and b) in addition to running a lean, contractor-based agency in the digital ad space after a career leading social strategy at MTV and IFC and managing campaigns for brands like Hanes, Etsy, and VH1 (hello, career reinvention!), she publishes Wednesday Morning , a go-to newsletter for marketers tracking what’s changing across the social ad platforms.
Wednesday Morning is a case study in using content creation to build and sustain credibility in your area of expertise. The TL;DR: publish consistently in a voice only you have, post natively where the algorithm rewards you, and let the business come from trust instead of asks.
Packaging your expertise into a Substack or LinkedIn newsletter (Jenny does both) shows people what you know, how you think and what it’s like to work with you before they ever get on a call. It’s not a linear path to sales, but it produces trust, and trust is what actually gets you business.
We talk platform strategy, collabs, referrals, organizational structures, pricing, and how to create a newsletter that you will actually execute consistently, which is (of course) the hardest part.
Love,
Erin
