Homeschooling is truly a team effort in our home. While I guide our nine-year-old daughter through her daily curriculum, my husband enriches her learning with projects inspired by his guiding principle: sound mind, sound body, and sound economics. Together, they’ve tackled the Rubik’s Cube, explored the strategy and patience of chess, and found joy in mastering new challenges.
Our days are full, between family Duolingo Spanish lessons, jiu-jitsu three times a week, and weekly gymnastics, yet my husband recently introduced another powerful skill: the art of negotiation. He’s helping her understand how to navigate debate, persuasion, and the subtle tactics of human interaction that shape the world around her as she grows.
I’ll be sharing many of these stories that have profoundly influenced her development. Here is the very first one!
One sunny afternoon, Mia and her best friend Leo sat in the kitchen, staring at a plate of treats. Mia had three chocolate chip cookies—her favorite—but no juice. Leo had a big glass of apple juice but only one oatmeal cookie, which he didn’t love. “I wish I had juice,” Mia sighed. “I wish I had more chocolate chip cookies,” Leo said.
Mia thought for a moment. “Hey, Leo, let’s make a deal! What if I give you one of my cookies, and you give me a sip of your juice?” Leo tilted his head. “Hmm, one cookie for one sip? But I’d still be hungry. How about two cookies for half my juice?” Mia frowned. “Two is a lot! How about one cookie and I’ll draw you a picture of your dog, too?”
Leo smiled. “I love pictures of Sparky! Okay, one cookie and a picture for half my juice. Deal!” They shook hands, traded, and both giggled. Mia sipped her juice, and Leo munched his cookie, both feeling happy. They learned that talking and sharing ideas could make them both better off!

If you know families who will enjoy sharing these stories with their children, please pass it on! With love, health, and knowledge, may you live abundantly. See you again in the next post!
Warmly,
Brit-Simone
