We are one month away from my first cookbook being published. That is an insanely exciting prospect and one I’ve dreamt of for many years. The publication of Elevate feels like a bigger career milestone than anything else I’ve experienced so far. As Thursday 9th April draws closer and closer I seem to be having lots of conversations with friends, family and people I meet about the process of writing a book.
What shocks people the most is the time it takes to write a cookbook. When you pick a book up off the shelves, or cook a recipe from it, you’d be excused for not realising just how long it often takes to go from an idea to a dish on your plate in your kitchen. The time between landing a book deal and a book being on the shelves will often be about 24 months, sometimes more. Our schedule was slightly quicker than this but still pretty hefty at around 20 months and that is testament to the amount of work that goes into it.
