In 2023, before I got into any of this, I had no idea there was a whole ecosystem of organizations in a sector known as the “bridging space” loosely aligned by a common interest in bridging divides (religious, socio-economic, geographic, political, and so on). The name Bridge Grades itself becomes obvious in retrospect.
In September, I attended a bridging coalition event at Mt. Vernon, Virginia pulled together by the indomitable Listen First Project. There, I ambushed one of the top voices of bridging, podcaster Wilk Wilkenson, who subsequently invited me for a conversation on “Derate the Hate” — his podcast collaboration with bridging giant Braver Angels.
I appreciated the long-form circuitous conversation with Wilk, and the time to go deeper into the “why” and the “how” of Bridge Grades. Wilk is a pro (this is his episode #290) and it was a privilege to connect with him on our mutual enthusiasm for bridging divides.
