After viewing the video I created today, I want to dispel any notions that just because we suddenly direct our energy and attention to a matter that has gone unaddressed, we will be rewarded with ease. Unfortunately, despite how I rail against the premise that “everything is a process” it’s the ultimate truth.
More times than I care to admit I had to run the extension cord, setup the site, prep the shed, and then suddenly stop and undo everything for a variety of reasons. This is what it looked like behind the scenes:
Non-stop scheduling issues,
Finding more unexpected projects in my shed once I started digging around for materials,
Hardware store resupply for more _______(fill in the blank). In this case mostly sanding pads,
Moisture level in the early morning when I wanted to “get it done”,
Unexpected rain storms,
Expected weather patterns rolling in off the water or over the mountains.
It’s almost like a right of passage. I’ve found that when I take the first steps to address what has gone unaddressed for far too long, my internal monologue always begins with “I got this”, followed pretty instantly with
“Here we go again. Everything is always such a project! Why can’t it just be easy?”
It’s called a project for a reason. The good news, like in the case of this shed project, or sustaining an organization, the end goal does come and the feeling of happiness at a job well down is a major dopamine release…which of course encourages you to repeat the process soon!
