Reimagining Personal AI

Brian Selzer · Resonant Signal

We are moving faster than ever. And in that speed, we are losing ourselves.

In a world obsessed with optimization - faster clicks, smarter tools, frictionless everything - something essential is slipping through the cracks.

A quieter force is emerging. Not speed. Not scale. But resonance.

Resonance is the ability to stay attuned to your own signal - your truth, your rhythm, your values - while navigating a world increasingly mediated by AI.

In the age of ambient computing and AI wearables, your personal AI should be your shield and guide—deeply attuned to your signals, patterns, and values. It’s not just smart—it’s aligned. Transparent by design. Always acting in your best interest, never as a silent middleman.

The age of personal AI is not coming. It’s landing.

From OpenAI’s auto-agents to Meta’s smart glasses, the interface is no longer just a screen. It’s the atmosphere around you. It’s your breath. Your posture. Your preferences. Your pulse.

You won't "log in" to the next internet. You will live inside it.

And the systems surrounding you? They’ll sense you, steer you, even speak for you.

The real question isn’t what AI can do. It’s who it will serve. And who you will become as you live through it.

Over the last 20+ years, I’ve built immersive systems at the bleeding edge - from launching Marvel’s mobile division, to co-founding Ogmento (the first location-based AR gaming company acquired by Apple), to advising companies on XR, spatial AI, and neural interfaces.

I’ve worked across games, sensors, geospatial tech, and wearables. I’ve helped design systems meant to engage and delight. But I’ve also seen how easily those same systems can extract, manipulate, and reduce us to data.

Now we’re layering AI on top of it all. Faster. Smarter. More invisible.

Without conscious design, we won’t get agency. We’ll get deeper entanglement.

That’s why I’m putting focus toward what I call Resonant System Design - a creative, human-centered approach to designing ethical, responsive, and trust-based AI systems.

Most of today’s platforms are built to extract value from you - not offer it to you.
They track your behavior, predict your actions, and feed you content that triggers emotion - because that drives clicks, shares, and ad revenue. In the process, they flatten your identity into patterns of engagement. Most don’t care who you are - only what you’ll react to.

Resonant systems take a different path. They’re designed to support awareness, not addiction. They prioritize consent over coercion, reflection over reaction.
They’re built to honor your values, preferences, and evolving sense of self - not exploit your biases or vulnerabilities.

In short: they serve you, not just the algorithm.

And as we enter an era of agentic AI - where intelligent systems don’t just assist, but act on your behalf - resonance becomes not just a value, but a requirement.

Your personal AI will make decisions for you. It will collaborate with other agents. It will shape your perception. In this new reality, reputation systems (for people, platforms, and agents) will matter more than ever.

Trust will be quantified, exchanged, and scrutinized in real time. But trust isn’t just a score. It’s a signal. And it must be earned through transparency, reciprocity, and resonance.

Resonant System Design invites us to imagine and build intelligent systems that:

  • Enable real-time, contextual consent
Let users make informed choices based on where they are, what’s happening, and who’s requesting access.

  • Make trust flows transparent
Show clearly who is involved, what they want, and why it matters - so users can trust with intention.

  • Empower AI to manage influence
Personal agents should help filter manipulation, bias, and noise - aligned with the user’s goals and values.

  • Protect attention and intention by design
Design systems that respect human focus, not exploit it - supporting clarity over distraction.

  • Replace extraction with mutual value
Shift from harvesting data to creating exchanges that serve both user and system - with dignity and reciprocity.

It’s about building membranes, not mirrors - designing systems that let in what nourishes, filter out what doesn’t, and protect your inner signal from distortion.
Mirrors reflect back a version of you shaped by algorithms and past behavior. Membranes create space for intention, growth, and aligned interaction.
Not tools that trap you - but systems that support your growth.

Every interaction shapes your resonance field - expanding it through trust, or distorting it through misaligned exchange.
The key is knowing what’s entering your field, why, and whether it serves you.

This is not just a product problem. It’s a planetary one.

As Tristan Harris said, "The machines are learning us faster than we are learning ourselves."

And Yuval Noah Harari warned, "The ability to hack humans will be the greatest political question of our century."

If we don’t design for resonance now, we risk building systems that outpace our awareness, outsource our will, and override our most human qualities.

But there is another way.

As the philosopher Marshall McLuhan once wrote:

"We shape our tools, and thereafter our tools shape us."

The tools we shape now will shape everything.

The next five years will decide whether AI systems amplify consciousness or replace it with predictive scaffolding wrapped in convenience.

Those who resonate will:

  • Navigate digital systems with sovereignty

  • Build deeper trust with their communities and tools

  • Lead in ways others can’t yet perceive

Those who don’t will be shaped by those who do.

We’re not here to tweak the old machine. We’re here to build something new.

Not just with smarter tech, but with deeper meaning.

The choice isn’t whether to enter the future. It’s how.

And more importantly -

Who do you want to become as you live inside systems shaped by AI?
