I might start a blog on here. A good old fashioned blog, like in the Wordpress days. Just a place to put my random thoughts or reviews of things. But there a few things holding me back.
One thing is that I don’t want to start something just to abandon it later. You know how it is. You get an idea into your head about something you want to launch yourself into it, and you’re really excited about it for the first few days or weeks or months, and then the honeymoon period is over and you can’t be fucked with it anymore.
Let me interrupt myself…
As I’m typing this, ready to list all these things holding me back, I’ve actually forgot what’s holding me back because I’m too busy enjoying typing.
I’m typing on my computer, and I’m enjoying that feeling of tapping away and seeing my thoughts appear on the screen. I don’t know how the text looks to you, but at my end it’s a dark grey serif font (or is it typeface?) on a white background. It just looks nice to me.
The paragraphs look nice to me as well. Bite size paragraphs, rather than a big lump of text. I looked some random Substacks earlier, and a few of them had these big walls of text in a single paragraph, and I couldn’t read them. I don’t know what it is I don’t like about it, it’s like a marathon rather than a series of short walks. Plus if you happen to look away for a moment, you don’t know where the fuck you were.
Anyway, I might try and keep this up. A blog.
I just need to remind myself to not worry too much about being interesting. That does my nut in. I like the challenge of being interesting, of putting something together that you think people will like, but I also like doing stuff that’s just for me. Just the feeling of tapping away on a keyboard and seeing what comes out.
Also, I need to not think too much about popularity, or stats or whatever. I need to type like I’m the last person on the planet and I’m doing it just to stop myself losing the plot. Like a diary, in the old days.
That’s another reason why I want to start a blog: the old days. I’ve been nostalgic for the old days of the internet, the blogs, the long posts of thoughts and feelings, before Twitter and Instagram and all that. I just want a break from the videos and the ads and the algorithm stuff.
I’ve enjoyed typing this.
I’ve enjoyed having a good old… I don’t know what you would call it. A rant. A train of thought. Just a long bit of words rather than a tweet or whatever you call it these days.
I’ll really try to keep this up.
