When you’re craving something sweet, maybe you should make your kitchen a bakery like i did. No, seriously….!!!
This did in fact take longer than going to the store and buying a sweat treat. But nothing beats a hot pastry at the crack of dawn <3
Recipe for donuts:
2 tbsp active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water
1 1/8 cups hot milk
1/4 cup melted butter
1/2 tsp strawberry extract
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
Instructions:
Bloom the yeast: In your large mixing bowl, combine the warm water and yeast. Let sit 5-10 minutes until foamy. If it doesn’t foam, the yeast is dead — start over with fresh yeast.
Add the milk: Pour in the warm milk and stir to combine.Add the melted butter and stir.
Add sugar, salt, and extract: Add the sugar, salt, and strawberry extract. Whisk until combined.
Add the eggs: Crack in the eggs and whisk until fully incorporated.
Add flour gradually: Add flour 1/2 cup at a time, mixing (or kneading with a stand mixer dough hook) between additions. Stop once the dough pulls away from the bowl and is only slightly tacky… you may not need the full 4.75 cups.
Knead: Knead for 8-10 minutes by hand, or 5-6 minutes on medium speed with a dough hook, until smooth and elastic.
First rise: Cover the bowl with a towel or plastic wrap and let rise in a warm spot for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
Shape: Punch down the dough, roll out to about 1/2 inch thick, and cut into donut shapes.
Second rise: Place shaped donuts on a floured tray, cover loosely, and let rise another 30-45 minutes until puffy.
Fry: Heat oil to 350°F. Fry donuts 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown. Don’t overcrowd the pot.
Drain & top: Drain on a paper towel-lined tray. While still warm, dip or fill with melted chocolate and top with fresh strawberries.
I think you’ll be craving these until the holidays….
