You don’t get to pick where a cultural moment lands. And once it arrives, you’ve got limited control of it.
Right now, a lot of people are UNHAPPY that the latest cultural rollback of the serious damage the Woke Mind Virus has been doing to our country is happening in a sports league they don’t like or care about: the WNBA.
They wish the fast cultural rollback of the Woke Mind Virus was happening somewhere else, because they don’t like sports, or basketball - especially the pro women’s version of it - and so they aren’t embracing the moment.
It’s fine to COMPLAIN about the Woke Mind Virus taking over so many important and cherished national and cultural institutions in this country. Especially the US sports institutions, like the NBA, the NFL, MLB, etc. To wax rhapsodic and at length about how TERRIBLE it is that our sports are being corrupted by the Commie Marxist Scum class, and it had reached the point some time ago that the Woke Mind Virus proponents were literally engineering and crafting situations where young girls were running, throwing, wrestling, boxing, playing against boys in wigs.
But now that the shoe is on the other foot, and our great America First President Donald J. Trump is leading the Great American Comeback and launching a New American Golden Age, where a key part of this agenda is the CULTURAL ROLLBACK OF THE WOKE MIND VIRUS and all the [mostly] illusory gains that virus had ‘won’ for itself over the past several decades, all of a sudden certain people’s enthusiasm for this fight is waning.
The Commie Marxist Scum that infiltrated our national institutions to turn them against us used a BROAD SPECTRUM strategy. They started with our academia, but they never had any intentions of staying confined within the ivory towers. A cultural takeover MEANS a cultural takeover, and education is only a subset of the broader cultural whole.
So for the past 50+ years, the Commie Marxist Scum have been tirelessly infiltrating every aspect of the POPULAR CULTURE to control it and redirect into an attack upon the heart of the nation.
To pull off their agenda for the US, the CMS always knew they needed full and robust control of American:

Movies
Music
Books
Video Games
Comic books
Sports
Broad spectrum MEANS broad spectrum. Even for video games, Commie Marxist Scum activists who hated the medium and didn’t even like playing games held their noses and infiltrated to assert control over the medium and redirect it for The Glorious Cause.
And a big part of the Woke Mind Virus cult KEEPING the control it has over the pop culture is the power to CANCEL.
The power to CANCEL anyone at anytime is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT and VALUABLE to them, as they advance their Woke Mind Virus agenda for the rest of us.
The FEAR of CANCELLATION is how the Woke Mind Virus dishonestly and unethically advanced itself in our culture. Once that fear is GONE, and they CAN’T cancel anyone any longer, the Great Cultural Rollback begins.
Well, guess what? The Great Cultural Rollback started already. It started some time ago.
Over a year ago, an actress named Sidney Sweeney DARED to make some clever tongue-in-cheek jeans commercials about her ‘fantastic jeans’ and all The Usual Woke Suspects lined up and carefully arrayed their cultural forces to MAKE HER DISAPPEAR…
…and nothing happened.
A cultural moment unfolded and went viral where Sweeney literally stared down the cultural hall monitor attempting to shame her into voluntarily leaving the city for the wilderness. Stared her down with utter contempt. It was beautiful.
Right now, another young woman has become the tip of the spear in a new cultural moment unfolding before the entire country: Sophie Cunningham.
In case you missed it, I devoted my last column to how Cunningham, a reserve player on the WNBA Indiana Fever team, by honestly and truthfully answering a ‘hand grenade’ question put to her with bad faith by an ESPN reporter, managed to place herself right in the center of the ongoing culture war between those who want America First culture and those who demand America bend the knee to the Woke Mind Virus.
Because she told the truth about what she believed in a country where millions of people over the last couple of decades mumbled the obligatory answer that was required by the pissed off activists, in a nation where girls sports are a vital part of the culture…Sophie instantly became a national icon.
Now, she was already gaining traction for being Caitlin Clark’s big sister/protector on the court, a very necessary role for her if you follow the WNBA and see the kind of crap Clark has been subjected to in the world’s most woke sports league.
But when Sophie told the truth to ESPN, she went SUPERNOVA.
Her new shoe [yes, a RESERVE player on an WNBA team in a league most of the country wasn’t watching until recently, got her own shoe line!] SOLD OUT within HOURS of its launch.
The Culture War’s big moments land where they will. I’ve spent years watching various factions across the institutional spectrum trying to CREATE, and then CONTROL and GUIDE and STEER these big Culture War moments for around 4 decades now. They usually fail abjectly at it.
The first Big Culture moment around Sophie Cunningham, who got the spotlight because she stepped up and defended her ‘little sister’ from the WNBA thugs who were constantly fouling her, was the ESPN interview 2 weeks ago where a clever woke ESPN reporter honestly and truly thought she was derailing Cunningham’s career by tossing her a VERY loaded question. a litmus test question, the same question used to test the loyalties of countless individuals involved in girls/women’s sports in America for years now:
Do you think trans athletes should be allowed to compete in girls sports?
And Cunningham didn’t look at the floor and mumble out the usual expected answer.
So a few days later, on camera, another woke sports reporter gave Cunningham ANOTHER CHANCE to ‘get the answer right’. Guess how THAT went?

So what happened next? Grateful people who’ve been fighting to extract the Woke Mind Virus from their daughter’s sports began rallying to her. Girls especially began THANKING Sophie for speaking up, because so many female athletes up until now have either mumbled the ‘right’ answer or dodged the question.
That led to two young women wearing XX/XY shirts sitting at courtside at a recent Indiana Fever/Seattle Storm game, who ended up being subjected to lots of verbal abuse not only from fans who support boys playing in girl’s sports, but from the co-owner of the Seattle Storm, who ended up being disciplined by the league for it.

So, here’s where things stood up until last night’s game between the Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky:
Woke Sports tried to cancel the ‘growing problem’ of Sophie Cunningham, who keeps focusing attention on how truly horrible the league is being to its biggest star player.
The ambush interview by the ESPN reporter spectacularly backfired, when instead of cancelling Cunningham, it LAUNCHED her into the stratosphere. Trying to do damage control, they sent another reporter at her, and when Cunningham doubled down, RALLIES IS SUPPORT OF HER began to happen at Fever games. The league tried to crack down on the Sophie support, which led to a viral story about how badly Sophie fans were treated by a league co-owner, who the league had to very publicly suspend and fine.
And last night, in the game between the Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky, Team Woke Mind Virus sent a very CLEAR SIGNAL to Team Girls Sports Are For Girls when THIS happened early in the game:

BTW, DiJonai Carrington is infamous in the league for her dirty play. This is the same woman who deliberately poked Caitlin Clark in the eye during Clark’s rookie year.

You don’t get to pick a Culture War moment that shifts the ground towards you and away from the Woke Mind Virus Cult. It happens or it does not.
But when it’s happening…why would you waste time bitching to everyone one fighting the Woke Mind Virus about just how much you HATE SPORTS and you don’t give a shit about women’s basketball, Sophie Cunningham or Caitlin Clark?
You can’t control a cultural moment. You cannot steer or guide it where you want it to go. Which is why I had some stern words in that last column for those who insist on continuing to try to draft Caitlin Clark and substitute her in the game for Sophie Cunningham. Listen : the moment picked CUNNINGHAM to be the tip of that spear. That you think it should be CLARK standing there instead is IRRELEVANT.
The cultural moment to take control of the WNBA away from the Woke Mind Virus Cult has arrived.
You can embrace it. Or not.
But you’ll never control it.
So quit trying. Embrace it where it lands, and move the ball down the field towards the goal line, whether the Big Moment lands in Hollywood TV/Movies, academia, books, music, video games…or sports you don’t particularly care about.
