I was asked to send some written advice to my best friend’s son who just graduated from high school and is heading to college. It allowed me to indulge in one of the best (if not only) things about getting older and middle age - hard won wisdom. Of course I got existential with it and realized most of the advice is actually still applicable to me, so naturally I figured I’d share it here.
It’s the same answer I gave my son Charlie when he recently asked me how I got to be where I am in my business - it was an off the cuff answer but it rings true to me:
Find the thing you are naturally good at ….. and ….
Work really, really, really, really hard ….and ….
Do it with people who you enjoy being around.
