Our new tool helps you discover San Francisco street trees that were planted on the day you were born.

It’s a beautiful day in San Francisco and I’m about to hop on my bike to meet some friends for lunch, but first I’m excited to share a new mini-project I’ve been working on that searches the city’s database of street trees to locate trees that were planted on the day you were born.

I got the idea for this project a couple weeks ago when Friends of the Urban Forest presented at my neighborhood association and announced that they would be planting over 100 trees across our neighborhood in mid June! We lost several trees in the Lower Haight from the storms this past winter and I’m super excited to help plant replacements.

I also learned while working on this project that Friends of the Urban Forest (FuF) has planted over 60,000 street trees in San Francisco since 1981. That’s half the city’s current urban canopy! FuF is a really amazing non-profit here in the city and I highly encourage you to support their work and sign up to help plant a tree this summer! 🌳

Lastly, I want to give a huge shout out to my friend Cooper Ogden who shot all of the aerial videography for this project. If you need help with any video work, he’s amazing to work with and I highly encourage you to check out his work and hire him.

Alright now go find your birthday tree and then hop on your bike to say thank you and give it a hug. 🌎🌴🌳🎄🥰
