Welcome to Writing the Heart: A new space to write, reflect, and go a little deeper.

Earlier this week, I kicked off a new project here on The Seeker called Writing the Heart. The idea is simple: twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays, I’ll be sharing a short guided journaling video with you.

Usually, on Mondays, we’ll dive into a passage from a memoir I love and pull out three lines to spark your own writing. Then on Thursdays, we’ll loop back to that same passage, zoom in on a few lines from the passage, and I’ll offer a prompt designed to take you a bit deeper.

Finally, I’ll share a quick tip if you ever want to shape your journal entries into a story. I truly believe in the magic of storytelling, and I don’t use that word lightly. A good story does something a spreadsheet or a list of facts never could: it slips the reader into a quiet trance where they get to live your experience alongside you. Done well, it gives them a mirror to see themselves, too. It really is pure magic.

I actually broke my own rule right out of the gate this week and started with a poem instead—David Whyte’s “The Well.”I just couldn’t resist. It’s a piece that means a lot to me, and it felt like the perfect place to anchor us as we begin.

I wanted to share this first week of videos with everyone for free. Starting next week, Writing the Heart will move over to paid subscribers. If these prompts resonate with you and feel like a good addition to your routine, I’d love for you to consider upgrading your subscription to hang out with me here twice a week.

On a related note, I also host a live Zoom group that shares the same name, Writing the Heart. Some folks who join are seasoned writers, but plenty of others are just curious seekers looking to explore their inner world, understand themselves better, and see what happens when pen meets paper. It’s grown into such a kind, grounded, and safe space to write and share together. If you ever want to join us live, just drop me a message—I’d be happy to share the details.

For today, grab your journal, find a quiet spot where you can settle in, and let’s see where this prompt takes you.
