This week’s headlines brought an interesting contrast - and it perfectly illustrates the priorities of Illinois Democrats.
For years, we have been pushing for the estate tax to be reformed, and year after year nothing has happened. It’s the same excuse - “we need the money”. Well, that excuse has several holes in it. The most recent hole? The fact that we are considering a bailout for Chicago once again, to an amount 4x the cost of estate tax reform.
It’s obvious what their priorities are. Follow the money.

Illinois Taxpayers Asked To Bail Out Chicago Public Schools Once Again
We’ve been told for years that Chicago supposedly distributes more money to the state than it takes. Well, after multiple million and billion dollar bailouts to their schools, infrastructure, and transportation I would say that it’s time we be honest - Chicago Democrats’ mismanagement of their city has made it a liability to the rest of Illinois.
We’re Approaching The End Of Another Year, and Still No Estate Tax Reform In Sight
Illinois is one of few states with a stricter estate tax bracket than the federal government. Make no mistake - this is a death tax - and it’s just one of many things driving people out of Illinois.
We’ve been calling for Estate Tax Reform or Repeal for three years now - and despite groups like the Farm Bureau making it their top priority, Illinois Democrats have refused to amend this tax which accounts for less than 1% of our $59 Billion Budget.

Speaker Welch Scrambling To Cover His Failures
Here’s the scoop: Speaker Welch is trying to do damage control by creating a “working group” to address “culture” in the House - following his mishandling of sexual harassment issues over the past 3 years.
More than 1 Democrat has now come forward and said they declined to participate due to concerns that this was only for optics, and not for actual interest in fixing issues in the House.
As I have said before - elections for Speaker will be taking place in less than 3 months. This could be a major shakeup in the Capitol!

Illinois Policy Reports On 2025 Student Proficiency
Students in Illinois are heading back to class in a public school system with a lot of room to improve.
While proficiency rates in the 2025 school year may seem higher than in previous years, those numbers come with a major warning: Beginning with the spring 2025 assessments, Illinois changed the scores considered proficient.
Even under the loosened standards, nearly half of Illinois public school students were not proficient in reading, and over half weren’t proficient in math.
High absenteeism also plagues the state’s public schools.
It’s important for parents and community members to stay engaged with what’s happening in their schools and encourage their school boards to create pro-parent, pro-transparency and pro-taxpayer policies aimed at ensuring the best educational and financial outcomes in their districts.
