I recently found myself at the Musée Jacquemart-André with a friend I met at an Arch Digest party for Ken Fulk (her substack is a must follow esp. for fashion).
We were attending an immersive rendition of the opera La Traviata, where we found ourselves discussing the idea of Aesthetic Intelligence.
I remember when I first heard this term, “the new AI”…er maybe it’s actually the “old” AI…but I digress.
The concept that aesthetics extend far beyond what meets the eye.
That true luxury is found in what makes us feel. The “sensory delight” of an experience.
Since moving to the cattle ranch all those years ago, and now, living in Paris - this is the feeling that I’ve always coined, “you don’t need more, you need meaningful.”
This concept has shaped our work at Boxwood Avenue Interiors.
Many clients come to us with the same challenge:
“How do I create a home that feels more timeless than trendy…while still being interesting and cutting edge?”
Or perhaps more bluntly: How do I prevent my new-build home from feeling cookie-cutter?
One of our recent clients in Austin, Texas had come to us with exactly this concern.
The new construction home was beautifully planned, but the actual visual interest (layers, texture, character) was missing.
The truth is, new-build homes rarely lack luxury, but so often the provided plans miss the important details that truly elevate a space beyond “pretty”.
