The Voice of Gamaliel

There is a moment in the book of Acts that most people read past too quickly.

The disciples had been arrested. The council was assembled against them to judge them. The Sanhedrin, the most powerful religious body in the land, was gathered with one intent: to silence the movement of the Gospel through the disciples before it spread any further. These were not weak men. These were men with authority, with influence, with the power to imprison, to flog, and to kill.

And then a man stood up. His name was Gamaliel.

This man was a Pharisee. A doctor of the law. A man held in high reputation and regard among all the people. He was not a “friend” of the gospel. He was not a secret believer. He was a member of the very council seeking to destroy what God was building. Yet when he opened his mouth, the words that came out surprisingly created a canopy of protection over the disciples that the enemy did not authorize and could not revoke.

He said to his colleagues in Acts 5:38-39:

“Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought: But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it.”

He did not know he was prophesying. He did not know he was an instrument. He simply spoke, and God used it for His own purpose.

That is the word of the Lord for someone today.

Know this, friends, God has not run out of voices He can use concerning you.

When you survey the landscape of the opposition against you, you may feel outnumbered. The people in positions of power seem aligned against you. The influential voices appear to be working against your advancement. The doors that should open remain closed, and the mouths that could speak in your favor are either silent or compromised. You feel alone.

But you have forgotten something.

God owns every mouth.

He is not limited to the voices already in your corner. He has never been restricted to those who love you, those who agree with you, or those who share your faith. Throughout Scripture, when the destiny of His people hung in the balance, He reached into the camp of the adversary and commandeered a voice.

He did it with Gamaliel. He has done it before. He will do it again.

The Pattern God Has Established

Cyrus, King of Persia, a pagan king who did not even worship the God of Israel or had any covenant or history with Jehovah. Yet God used him to issue a decree that reversed the captivity of an entire people and funded the rebuilding of the house of God.

Same with Artaxerxes, God used him to rebuild what the enemy had torn down in Israel (Nehemiah 2:8)

While the chief priests and elders were pressing for the blood of Jesus, a woman, a gentile, whose husband, Pilate was to determine the fate of Jesus sent a private message to her husband: “Have thou nothing to do with that just man.” (Matthew 27:19) She was not a Christian but God placed a dream in her head while she slept.

God moves in rooms you are not in. He speaks through mouths you did not prepare. He issues decrees from thrones you cannot access.

This is not just a random thing for God; it is part of His covenant operation throughout history. And now, you are next.

What does this mean for you?

It means that your destiny is not held hostage by the opinions of those in power over you.

Your promotion does not require the cooperation of everyone who has tried to hold you back. Your assignment cannot be permanently buried by those who have the authority to obstruct it. When God has ordained something for your life, He will find a voice, raise a voice, or turn a voice to ensure that what He has spoken comes to pass.

The Gamaliel principle is simply this: when your work is of God, even your adversaries become unwilling advocates. (Proverbs 16:7)

When a man’s ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.

You do not need them to like you. You do not need them to understand you. You do not need them to agree with your calling. You only need your way to please God, and God will move upon them in the moment it matters, and He has a long and unbroken history of doing exactly that. He can do it again, and He will, in your life, in the name of Jesus. He will use the most expected voice of those against your to speak in your favor.

Why?

Because Proverbs 21:1 says: The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.

Do not shrink back from the assignment that God has made clear to you because of who is sitting in the seat of opposition. God is already in that room before you arrived. He has already prepared a word in the mouth you least expected. They will speak for you, not against you! Because the Lord is in control of the situation, not man, not even you. Every negative voice speaking against you are crushed in the name of Jesus. Every voice of lies, hypocrisy, or silent voices too afraid to speak up for you will be ashamed!

What do you need to do? Stand still and watch God speak for you through mouths you least expected.

The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace. (Exodus 14:14)

Can you do that?

All the Egyptians you see today, you will see them no more. Every voice of Sanballat and Tobias in your life is silenced permanently in the name of Jesus. I pray that the Lord will raise the voice of people like Gamaliel to speak on your behalf in the name of Jesus!

Lord, let every voice of accusation, condemnation, intimidation, and judgment speaking against me, my home, and destiny be silenced immediately and permanently by the blood of Jesus.
