Freedom Lives There

I have always wanted to go far away from shallow small talk

and the kind of love that will die

I have always wanted to go deep inside

through every cracked door of my own heart

I want to storm through,

Knock down,

Set fire to the wooden frames

Some doors inside me lead to scary places.

They are trapped doors

guarded by the drooling three-headed dog from Harry Potter

They lead to the basement of cob webs,

the junk drawer full of old receipts and spare change,

the corners of the closet

I’ve always wanted to go

to the places that scare me

Because I know

that freedom lives there.
