Over the course of four—coming up on five—book releases, the word “cover” has been tossed around our house a lot. So much that at some point, Sophie started wondering, who is this Cover?

Her wondrous and vivid three-year-old imagination provided the answer: Cover Chewbacca Lansing.

Cover is a mischievous little boy with purple hair training to be a wizard. He has an older sister named Fuchsia who has pink hair and rides an electric scooter. These imaginary friends have joined us for meals, been a part of play sessions, and accompanied us on vacations. They’ve been showing up less and less lately, and whenever they make a surprise appearance (or so we’re told), John and I rejoice that we get to cling to this bit of Sophie’s childhood a little longer.

In honor of Cover Chewbacca Lansing, I’m excited to share SLEEP WHILE THEY SLEEP has a cover!!

Reader, I LOVE it.

It’s haunting and evocative and perfect for a thriller.

I often get asked how much control I have over my covers and the truth is, with traditional publishing, not much. Which I would argue is probably a good thing given my artistic proclivities. Need a doodle? I’m your gal. More than that? Look elsewhere.

Now, authors do have some say. I’m usually asked for any ideas I may have, physical traits of main characters and sidekicks, imagery or themes that creep up, and details about the setting, along with examples of comparison covers I like.

The designers and illustrators take all this information and craft something with it, and wow, did they knock it out of the park! Without further ado, here it is:

I’m obsessed with the rain-spattered window bordered in ivy, the shadowed face of a woman peering out from behind the glass, and the bright pop of color of the title.

I would love to hear what you think! And if you have any favorite book covers, or books you’ve purchased solely based on the cover??

Available for preorder and to add on Goodreads!

Cheers,

Kate
