For a long time, I wrote from bed. It was terrible for my posture—but that’s where spirit felt most present. That’s where the words would come.
When you choose your creative space, part of that is also choosing your time of day. I’m an early morning writer. I need about seven to eight hours of sleep, but sometimes spirit comes knocking before I’m fully rested. And when it does, I’ve learned to listen.
It’s quiet, and I’m quiet. In that diffused state of thinking, I can access what wants to come through.
When I sit down to write—or to podcast—I don’t always have an idea, and I rarely have an outline (which, to be clear, we don’t recommend when you’re writing a book—for many good reasons we will share another time).
But in these moments, I allow what is present to move through me. I think of myself as an instrument—open to something greater, something wiser. In alignment with my purpose, I offer myself to the page in that way, and the message comes through with clarity and ease.
Today, I’m in a different space. I’m sitting in a leather chair in my kitchen, in front of the fireplace, with a steaming cup of Jo beside me. It feels like bliss. The right space. The right time. And flow is within and without.
What I’ve come to understand is this: writing doesn’t happen because we force it. It happens because we create the conditions for it to arrive.
Your space matters. Your timing matters. Your willingness to sit down, surrender, trust, and listen matters most of all to your writing experience.
So let me ask you…
Where do you feel most connected to your writing? What place calls in your creativity?
I’d love to hear in the comments—do you have a space or time that opens the door for you?
And if you’ve been waiting for the right time to begin your book… this might be it.
You don’t need perfect clarity. You don’t need the whole plan.
You just need a place to begin—and someone to help you take the next step.
That’s exactly why we created our Author Jumpstart Coaching offer.
It’s designed to meet you where you are, help you access your voice, and give you the momentum to finally begin (or move forward with) your book.
If something in you is saying now… we’d love to support you.
