OKAY TEAM! It’s time to talk capsule wardrobes. If you were to ask me, curating a capsule wardrobe is probably top 2 best ways to either start or revive your fashion journey. I’m in the midst of this myself, which is what inspired me to write about this.
First of all, it will literally force you, and me, to SHOP OUR CLOSETS! Second of all, capsule wardrobes completely remove ANY friction you might’ve felt in the past when trying to get dressed. No more figuring out what matches or looks good together… because IT ALL DOES. It’s truly the only way to live. And somewhere along the over-buying highway, I forgot that.
The whole point of a capsule wardrobe is that every single piece can be mixed and matched however you see fit. YOU MAKE THE RULES. No matter what combo you go for, you’re safe, you feel good, and, most importantly, you look put together.
I have definitely heard the haters (which YOU are not) saying how capsules strip any creativity and fun out of getting dressed… to which I’d say, incorrect and in fact, quite the contrary! Ask literally any creative person ever… some of the best art (WHICH FASHION IS) is created within confines and boundaries. When you have set parameters, you’re forced to get even more creative than you potentially would’ve otherwise.
Think about when you pack for vacation? I personally always do so well because I have limited space but endless ideas. It’s essentially what a capsule wardrobe allows for. This might very well be the unlock you’ve been craving to fuel your creative juices and allow you to play with what’s in front of you. I spent all of last Sunday (5/17) trying on over 65 pairs of jeans that will no longer find a home in my house. I have been SO overwhelmed by my closet and the STRAIGHT UP ABUNDANCE of stuff around me. I have felt like I couldn’t see or breathe, let alone leave the house in an outfit I was proud of. LESS IS SO MUCH MORE AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN!!!!!!!!!!!
But before we dive in any further, here’s a quickie checklist for you to run through to ensure you create a capsule that WORKS FOR YOU.
Does this fill a gap in my closet? Remember what I said about not buying the same thing in a different font?????? Take inventory of what you have / what you’re missing to fully put together an outfit. No unnecessary repeats here.
What’s my current lifestyle? Or alternatively (we love to dress for the life we desire) ask yourself: what do I want my lifestyle to be? Getting real about your day to day is critical in making sure you’re actually set up for success. Like I’m not wearing sneakers and sweats to record a podcast (the lighting is challenge enough), so why would I shop like I am?
Does it fit and fall the way I want it to? The key to clothes looking great, is making sure they actually fit. DUH. Don’t skimp on well-fitting pieces. Trust me, they make ALL the difference.
Do I actually like this? Also duh… but wanna simply remind you to gut check your purchases. It’s so easy to fall into the trap of buying something only because it’s a trend or you think you should. Two awful reasons to shop in my book.

There’s just something about spring/summer that makes me want to SHOP! I love all of the vibrant colors, the fun and fresh fabrics, mini skirts WITHOUT tights (JOY), and just overall fabulous VIBES circling the air the second the temperature jumps past 75 degrees nationwide.
