The bad news came in hot over the telegraph wire: singer Tre. Charles has taken ill and can’t perform tonight’s Western Prom Sunset Concert in Portland. The townsfolk panicked. Chickens and pigs ran wild in the dusty streets (granted, they always do). Sheriff Clark acted quickly and put out a call for a short-notice replacement act. Anxious hours passed with no response. Then from over yonder came the sound of gallopin’ hooves, lots of ’em, and sure enough, when they crested the promenade, it was the bangin’ Maine bluegrass group Tricky Britches ridin’ to the rescue! Starts at 6:15 p.m. Free for y’all.
Tiger Bomb — the bad-ass, leather-attired, all-female ’60s garage-rock band from Portland — plays a rare show in the sunlight on the Brunswick Town Mall at 6 p.m. Also free.
Robert Samantha is not a man. Nor is Robert Samantha merely an indie-rock band. “Robert Samantha is a soup,” their bio reads, “and it’s all going in there — middle school bullies, fears of premature balding, international tales of being cuckolded. It’ll make you laugh, dance, and shake your head in awe and disgust.” Soup’s on at The Apohadion Theater (107 Hanover St., Portland), when they play an album-release show for their LP Get well soon! with Isaac Raven (also more band-like than man-like), who’re releasing a new single (“Domino”), Snake Lips (who we were just talking about), and Savor at 7 p.m. Cover: $10 (all ages).
