Inner Breezes Become Outer Hurricanes

Work the wonky winds of the subtle body with The 9 Cleansing Breaths.

Hi friends,

Tomorrow we sit together under the full moon! Register here if you wanna come. Read on if you wanna know what we’ll be getting up to…

We’re a week into full-on summer: the season of movement is in full swing. There’s the feeling of making and doing, of spilling out from our hidey holes to meet the world and do what’s ours to get done.

Elementally, this is the quality of wind. And while wind feels alive, it can also feel like chaos. There are patios to conquer, and gardens to wrangle. Emotions that run hotter and temptations that grow wilder. Life seems to proliferate in every direction the more daylight you throw at it. And under it all, the nagging urgency of how fleeting the season is, how close autumn is on our heels even now.

So how do we find clarity, agency, and ease in this whirlwind?

The breath and body is a great place to start. It’s the microcosm that mirrors the macrocosm. Everything we hope to set in motion beyond ourselves rests on what we’ve learned to feel and cultivate right here.

This is what the subtle body practices do. We make our attention fine enough to notice our mental and emotional life as it lives in the felt sense. The visceral-energetic movements of pushing and pulling.

These are the inner breezes that spiral into the outer hurricanes: before I have a blowout with someone, there is agitation building like static in the bodymind, sometimes for hours or days before it finally crests into an event in the world. Before I lose myself to the party gods and drink way too many margs, there is a restlessness. A reaching, grabby, thirsty, lonely thing that can be known and cared for before it spirals out into tomorrow’s hangover.

The gift of a subtle attention is getting in contact with these wonky winds while they’re still malleable.

So tomorrow night, we’ll tune in to that sphere:

  • We’ll experiment with posture and watch what it does to the immediate texture of mood and mind

  • We’ll go looking for aversion, grasping, and confusion, and find them as subtle constrictions of bodymind.

  • Then we’ll get it all moving, with The Nine Cleansing Breaths, a practice revered across the Indo-Tibetan traditions for its simplicity and effectiveness.

Let’s breathe out what’s stale into the warm summer night. 😮‍💨 All are welcome.

See you then! ✨
