Imagine arriving at your polling place next November.
You’ve voted there for years.
You hand over your identification.
The poll worker searches the voter rolls.
Then comes the sentence no voter ever wants to hear:
“I’m sorry...you’re not registered.”
That possibility is exactly why I invited investigative journalist Alison Greene back to Lean to the Left.
Our first conversation explored her investigation into alleged voter-roll irregularities and what she calls “ghost voters.” This second interview is different. It’s about preparation.

In our discussion, Greene explains how provisional ballots work, why checking your registration early is important, and how volunteers around the country are working to help citizens make sure they remain eligible to vote.
She also discusses the volunteer effort she’s building to monitor voter registration records and help identify changes before they become problems at the polls.
As journalists, our responsibility isn’t simply to report after something happens. It’s also to ask difficult questions, present evidence, and encourage citizens to become informed participants in our democracy.
