My grandfather came to this country as a migrant farm worker. He followed the growing season and worked the soil until he planted roots for our family in South Texas.
The land wasn’t just his livelihood. It was the future he built for our family.
That’s why I need to tell you about an issue that’s impacting farmers and ranchers across South Texas right now.
If you haven’t heard of screwworms or seen a picture of them, consider yourself lucky.
Screwworms are flesh-eating parasites that infect cattle, and they’re spreading across Texas quickly.
After years of drought, farmers had already seen the smallest herds in 75 years. Now, this pest is posing a serious threat to their livelihoods, our food supply, and driving beef prices through the roof.
The total cost to Texas’ economy: up to $1.8 billion.
You’d hope Washington is getting to the bottom of this issue, but it isn’t. In fact, DOGE and Elon Musk are responsible for slashing federal funding for programs monitoring the spread of screwworms.
And the issue is getting worse, not better. The screwworm parasite continues to spread in Texas, threatening the cattle industry and the financial wellbeing of our farmers.
Look, America’s strength starts with its land and the people who work it. My grandfather knew that, and I know it, too.
Our farmers and ranchers in South Texas need leaders in Washington who are going to look out for them.
When I get to Congress, I’ll fight for policies that protect our farmers, support rural families, and put safe, affordable, American-grown food on every table.
This community took care of my family, and we deserve a representative who will take care of it in return.

Before you go!
After 30 years in music, two-time Latin GRAMMY-winning Tejano artist Bobby Pulido is retiring from the stage to fight for his community in Congress.
He’s taking on one of the most competitive races in the country: Texas’ 15th District.
TX-15 is the key to Democrats winning back the House, and the latest poll shows Bobby leading by 2 points.
But Bobby has less money in his campaign account than his Trump-endorsed opponent.
