Our political system is broken.

We have a serious problem with money infiltrating our politics, and it’s getting worse.

In 2010, the Supreme Court handed down their decision in a case in Citizens United v. FEC. It was a 5-4 decision that let loose unlimited outside spending in our elections.

It was nothing short of formalized corruption. And another ruling from the Supreme Court just a few weeks ago made matters even worse.

By a vote of 6-3, the Supreme Court struck down a federal law that limited the amount of money political parties can spend in coordination with a candidate for office.

In both of these cases, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of big money in politics under the guise of “free speech.”

But here’s what you get as a result: Members of Congress who cater to their wealthy donors over the people they were elected to represent, whether it’s their party leaders or corporate PACs and big corporations.

In other words, the people in power are more concerned with staying in power than doing the job they were elected to do.

Just look at TX-15.

Our current representative, Monica De La Cruz, is sitting on a campaign war chest that’s worth over $2.3 million. She’s backed by national Republican groups because they know this seat is the key to keeping their narrow House majority.

Look, I’m not a career politician. I’m a Tejano artist, a dad, a small business owner, and a lifelong South Texan.

I’m running for Congress to fight for the people that Washington insiders want to push out of the process, and to hold the ones rigging it accountable.

When I’m elected, I’ll fight to overturn Citizens United and get big money out of politics. I will work with anyone across the aisle who’s serious about putting our democracy back in the hands of the people.
