“When I look back, I remember the teenager in suburban Chicago who hadn’t yet seen Ali MacGraw in Love Story and who felt overshadowed by her mother’s glamour. I think about the young girl who tried to find a college that would teach her about makeup and how fortunate she was that she knew someone who knew someone who suggested Emerson. I think about the determined, naive, and lucky young woman who showed up at the makeup union office in New York City. Could any of those girls have imagined what they could possibly accomplish? Could any of these younger Bobbis ever have imagined walking across the stage to receive a lifetime beauty achievement award? Could any have imagined having an adoring family, supportive colleagues, and a makeup career that continues to engage and challenge her?
I want to go back in time and tell those younger Bobbis, and
all girls, to stay true to themselves, and their vision, and their belief in real beauty, and to know that things will work out. Trust me.
They really will.” - Still Bobbi
So I saw this poem trend that really resonated with me and wanted to share…
I met my younger self for coffee,
She was a few minutes late,
I was a few minutes early.
She was dressed to impress.
I was wearing jeans and a sweater.
She told me she had no idea what she wanted to go to college for.
I told her I got to study makeup for my major at Emerson College.
She said she can’t find any makeup products that aren’t so heavy.
I told her I created my own.
She told me she’d probably retire by 60.
I told her I started a new beauty brand by 63.
She asked if she needed a plan.
I told her she just needed to believe in herself.
She asked me what happens id people say no?
I told her you ignore them and keep going.
I hope we can meet again soon.
