First label mockup… not final. Stay Tuned!

This isn’t my first attempt at creating my dream muffin. I’ve asked so many chef and baker friends to help me come up with something I could pull out of my freezer, pop in the toaster or microwave at work, and have it taste delicious, without leaving me exhausted or hungrier than before.

Do you remember when we thought bran muffins were a health food? Those giant, raisin-filled brown muffins at coffee shops in the ’90s? We all thought we were being healthy because of the name. Turns out they were calorie-and-sugar-packed bombs. They tasted good, but they never made me feel good.

I’ve been obsessed with creating the perfect muffin for years. Full disclosure: I cannot follow a recipe. I don’t care how simple it is…I just can’t bake. So I kept outsourcing the dream. I’ve asked countless talented friends to help me create it, and it just never quite happened… until now.

Last summer, I heard about an incredible gluten-free baker in Sag Harbor named Kira. My kids had discovered her at the farmers market and were obsessed. One day on a walk, I stopped by her stand, introduced myself, and told her how much my family loved her breads. I’m not gluten-free, but I do feel better when I don’t eat a lot of gluten-and I was eating a lot of her bread and cookies.

I told her about my dream: a muffin I could throw in my bag on the way out the door, toast or microwave at work, and actually feel satisfied after eating. I wanted it to have the right balance: high in protein, fiber, and healthy fats, so I wouldn’t be reaching for cake and cookies all day.

We went back and forth on the formula. Kira tested so many versions, and I was the very happy taste tester. I pushed for more protein. We even tried adding protein powder, which didn’t quite work, but we kept refining it. The final version has 7 grams of protein. Paired with Greek yogurt or a couple of hard-boiled eggs, it’s exactly what I was looking for.

I’m so excited to introduce Kira’s Bobbi Muffin. Another full disclosure: I’m getting paid in muffins to help promote it. I genuinely hope this muffin is loved, not just in the “health” world, but by anyone who wants something convenient, satisfying, and made with good ingredients.

It’s been really fun for me to watch an entrepreneur work on her craft, her branding, and everything that goes into building something from scratch. It’s launching soon, and you’ll be able to order it on her website. I can’t wait for you to try it.

Here’s the BTS process:
