A good night’s sleep, up at the crack of dawn as daylight emerges later each August morning. First action: a shower, then a meditation sitting, followed by a cup of coffee delivered to my home office (thank you, my loving wife). The day ahead holds endless possibilities if I maintain gratitude for each now moment. Now the trick is to stay in the moment. Life is good.
Yet, I reflect on this week’s meditation topic: Me, who is socially unaware.
So many times throughout my day, I find myself socially unaware. At times, I catch myself being insensitive to others in a social setting. This insensitivity is certainly not one of my best traits, but hopefully, with a little reflection and by remaining an active observer, I can catch these mishaps as they happen.
Too often, this behavior emanates from my ego’s voice as it attempts to dominate both myself and those around me. Silencing that ego is the true first step in becoming sensitive. With a quieted ego, I can listen with real understanding and compassion, responding without any need to be right, prove someone wrong, or dominate the conversation.
Namaste, my friends. Wishing you a day of experiencing the deep joys of listening with compassion.
