My sister turns twenty-five today and we are celebrating in Madrid. It has become a tradition that I write her a letter every year on her birthday.
I wanted to share this one with you.

Dear Cecily,
Well shit, bitch. You’re twenty-five.
On your twenty-third birthday, my wish for you was that you let yourself fall in love. Well, it happened. And then it really happened. What a blessing it has been to watch you love and be loved.
Last year, I advised you to keep jumping. Keep falling. Keep diving into the unknown so you could finally meet your future self and truly unlock your potential. And here she is, in Madrid, learning Spanish like you always wanted to.
Every wish, every dream and every goal we have set out to achieve together, you have either achieved it or you’re on your path to.
So today, on your twenty-fifth birthday, I want to challenge you. Since you’re a real grown-up now.
I challenge you to do the hard things. The things that hurt. The things that will pay off.
The things that will make you look back one day and say, “that was so hard, but so worth it.”
Push yourself to places you’ve never been. Seek out new adventures. Fall more. Fall harder.
My wish for you this year is that you step into a version of you that is truly fearless. Don’t worry about how you’ll be perceived. If you want to find your own voice, you need to block out the noise. And you need to speak up. Be loud with your ambitions and your desires. Not just with your words. With your actions. Dream bigger. Dream bolder. And don’t you dare be afraid of falling.
We didn’t raise you to be comfortable. We raised you to be capable. And you, my dear, are capable with a capital C.
It seems that no matter what happens in life, no matter where we go, no matter how unbearable we find each other in certain moments, I know unconditional love because I know you.
You are a part of me. I am a part of you. Your hopes and dreams are my hopes and dreams and mine are yours. You move, I move.
With love forever,
Your sister,
Blithe x
