Ok, enough chit-chat. What’s today’s question?

That thought tends to show up at just the right moments.

You see someone who seems completely at ease. They’ve got a routine. A rhythm. Things they do, places they go, a way of moving through the week that looks… settled.

And it’s hard not to compare.

Even casually.

I’ve had those moments. A conversation with someone who sounds like they’ve dialed it in. Or hearing about how someone else spends their time in a way that sounds both productive and relaxed.

It can leave you wondering if you missed something.

Like there was a version of retirement you were supposed to land in, and somehow took a slightly different turn.

The thing is, what you see is usually just the visible part.

You’re hearing the parts that sound put together. Not the quieter stretches. Not the days that feel off or unstructured or uncertain.

Those don’t come up as often in conversation.

And they probably exist more than it seems.

I’ve started to think that most people are still figuring it out as they go.

They just have certain parts that look more settled than others.

And those parts are what we tend to notice.

It’s easy to compare your whole experience to someone else’s highlight.

Especially when the whole experience includes the days that don’t quite land.

But that doesn’t mean you’re behind.

It might just mean you’re seeing the full picture of your own life…

and only a piece of someone else’s.

And those aren’t really the same thing.
