Bitcoin trades in a tight range. Algorithms and automated market makers seem to control the price action. The spot market lacks organic buyer volume to push above current levels. Corporate treasuries use this consolidation to manage credit and dividend obligations. Miners with capital pivot to AI computing, while others face collapsing margins. Meanwhile, we begin to see spot ETFs without critical mass begin to liquidate. This morning also saw the weekly updates from Strategy Inc and Strive. Let’s dig in.
Bitcoin traded at $63,568 this morning, representing a 1.01% gain over the last 24 hours. The asset began Sunday morning at $62,931 and experienced an intraday liquidity sweep. The session low reached $62,653, but the price recovered, finding support without triggering a cascade of liquidations. This dynamic suggests an exhaustion of immediate seller inventory and inelastic supply among long-term holders.
The price hit a peak of $63,706. Overhead supply stopped upward movement. The failure to generate breakout volume points to a lack of aggregate fiat liquidity. The price action suggests a market that remains stuck in a holding pattern. Macro-allocators lack directional conviction to initiate a systemic repricing event. Market participants need fiat liquidity to initiate a rally.
Corporate treasury data shows a split in capital allocation frameworks. Disparate historical cost bases and preferred equity dividend obligations drive this bifurcation.
Strategy Inc. paused Bitcoin purchases this past week. The company raised $333.7 million by issuing 3,458,866 Class A common shares through its at-the-market equity program. The firm diverted this cash to fortify its balance sheet and deleverage its capital structure. Strategy Inc. allocated $132.2 million to repurchase 1,388,720 shares of its STRC preferred stock. Another $52.4 million funded STRC preferred dividends, and $149.1 million went into a USD Reserve. The USD Reserve totals $4.80 billion. Strategy Inc. holds 840,447 Bitcoin at an average cost of $75,385 per Bitcoin. With the current price near $63,000, repurchasing discounted preferred shares yields a better return than acquiring Bitcoin. Remaining repurchase authorizations of $653.0 million for preferred stock and $1.0 billion for common stock suggest this defensive behavior will persist until spot prices clear the $75,000 cost-basis threshold. Michael Saylor and Phong Le will discuss this in a Q&A at 12:00 PM ET.
Strive (ASST) capitalized on the current price levels with a systematic accumulation mandate. Strive purchased 79 Bitcoin for an average execution price of $63,231 between August 10 and August 14. Strive holds 20,246 Bitcoin and $154.8 million in cash and equivalents. Strive maintains a 13.00% annual dividend on its SATA preferred stock, paying $0.0516 per share each day for the 21 business days in August. Strive holds 505,000 shares of Strategy Inc.’s STRC stock, valued at $47.86 million. Strive uses the STRC dividend yield to fund its operations and Bitcoin purchases. This interconnected preferred equity creates a synthetic credit loop within the Bitcoin proxy ecosystem.
The structural economics of the Bitcoin mining industry force operators to choose between AI infrastructure and legacy cloud mining.
HIVE Digital Technologies (HIVE) secured a $350 million cloud services agreement with an enterprise customer. HIVE’s BUZZ HPC subsidiary will deploy 2,016 NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra GPUs housed within NVIDIA GB300 NVL72 rack-scale systems. The architecture features NVIDIA Quantum-X800 InfiniBand networking and VAST Data storage protocols. The hardware goes to the Bell AI Fabric facility in Merritt, British Columbia, utilizing 100% renewable hydroelectric power and closed-loop liquid cooling. This five-year deal will add $70 million in new revenue each year, elevating total contracted revenue to $180 million by the fourth quarter of 2026. HIVE expects the infrastructure to generate $500,000 per day. The capital expenditure sits at $185 million, and the customer provided a $35 million deposit. HIVE proves that leasing computing power for AI workloads generates superior returns compared to hashing the SHA-256 algorithm.
BitFuFu (FUFU) revealed falling margins in its Q2 2026 report. BitFuFu experienced a 62.9% drop in revenue to $42.8 million from $115.4 million in Q2 2025. The company reported a $20.5 million net loss, swinging from a $47.1 million net income in the prior year. Adjusted EBITDA plunged to negative $18.4 million. Cloud mining revenue fell 73.6% to $24.9 million due to a 27.5% drop in Bitcoin’s realization price. Total managed hash rate contracted 57.7% to 15.3 EH/s. The cloud mining segment recorded a 24.1% net dollar retention rate. BitFuFu recorded a $16.9 million loss on digital asset holdings. Retail and institutional demand for forward-contracted cloud mining hash power evaporated. BitFuFu holds $119.5 million in cash and digital assets.
Insurance limits handicap distressed miners attempting a shift to AI. A one-gigawatt Texas data center owned by Meta and BlackRock faces insurance limitations. The global insurance sector lacks the capacity to underwrite policies for specialized, high-density AI hardware. Brokers advise developers to accept loss caps, leaving ventures liable for catastrophic tail risks. Underfunded miners will struggle to secure debt financing for AI clusters without comprehensive risk-transfer mechanisms.
The Hashdex Bitcoin ETF (DEFI) stops trading on the NYSE Arca on August 17. Hashdex Asset Management authorized a Plan of Liquidation on August 3. Hashdex will begin selling its physical Bitcoin on August 18. Shareholders will receive a cash distribution by August 24. The distribution will equal the net asset value of the shares, reflecting liquidation execution costs and Bitcoin price volatility during the sell-down period. DEFI managed $14.7 million in assets and held 225.58 Bitcoin. The fund lost $4.15 million in the first half of 2026. Mega-issuers monopolize the market through fee waivers, superior secondary market bid-ask spreads, and deep options chain liquidity which inevitably causes sub-scale ETFs to face operational collapse due to negative carry. The Bitcoin market faces a consolidation of physical custody and trading flow into fewer hands.
Federal Reserve policy will shape the coming weeks. While Chairman Warsh provides zero forward guidance on monetary policy, the FOMC minutes from last month’s meeting will be published Wednesday. Rising inflation expectations and elevated geopolitical risk surrounding oil prices may constrain the Fed from lowering the discount rate. Contracting retail sales complicates the macroeconomic picture. Bitcoin may be stuck in a holding pattern until central bank liquidity resumes. The infrastructure sector splits into a barbell distribution of mega-cap AI pivots and distressed asset liquidations. Watch for the Strategy Inc. Q&A at 12:00 PM ET. Monitor corporate credit health and consider covered call yield-generation strategies in the short term.
