Every summer I put up about two chickadee boxes on my property. I always hope to have a chickadee use it but the majority of occupants every year are House Wrens. The box specifications are the same for both species but wrens are more likely to use an artificial nest - they are quite okay nesting near houses with human activity.

After 15-17 days from hatching, the young wrens are ready to leave the nest.

After getting its bearings on the ground….

…..this wren quickly decided that higher was better.

By fluttering and clawing its way up the trunk, this fledgling found a safe spot to wait for its siblings to leave the box.

Chirping incessantly to each other and for food from their parents, three of the five managed to gather by the wood pile.

One of them is hoping to get feed until it realizes it is only its sibling.

Still have some feathers to grow out but that did not stop them from moving around pretty quickly.

One fledgling ended up in my garage but soon found its way on its own around the house to the group - that was pretty cool. I did not see or hear of the parents but often they will hide or stay quiet especially if there are humans or pets around. Parent wrens will bring in insects and caterpillars to feed for the next two weeks and know where their young are by their calls.
