There are three things I hope I never lose control of: my mind, my ability to keep moving, and the future I am trying to create.
Your head, your legs, and your future.
They sound like simple things, but they carry so much meaning.
Your head represents your thoughts. It holds your beliefs, your fears, your dreams, and the conversations you have with yourself when nobody else is around.
Your legs represent movement. They remind you that you still have the ability to get up, leave places that hurt you, chase opportunities, and take steps towards the life you desire.
Your future represents the person you are becoming. It carries all the possibilities that exist beyond where you are today.
The older I get, the more I understand how easy it is for people to lose parts of themselves without even noticing. They allow other people’s opinions to become louder than their own thoughts. They remain in situations that drain them because change feels frightening. They stop believing in the future because the present has become too difficult to handle.
Life can become overwhelming. There are moments when disappointment changes the way you see yourself. There are moments when rejection makes you question your abilities. There are moments when things do not happen according to your plans, and you start wondering if maybe the dreams you once carried were never meant for you.
I have had moments like that.
Moments when my own thoughts became the hardest thing to manage. When I looked at my life and wondered if I was making the right choices.
When I became tired from trying and questioned whether my efforts would ever lead somewhere meaningful.
Nobody really prepares you for the emotional weight of becoming an adult. People tell you to work hard. They tell you to dream. They tell you to believe in yourself.
What they do not always tell you is what happens when you are doing everything you can and life still feels uncertain. They do not always tell you about the days when confidence disappears. They do not always tell you about the moments when you have to remind yourself that one difficult chapter does not define your entire story.
And that is why protecting your head matters.
Your thoughts shape the way you experience life.
The way you speak to yourself matters. The beliefs you carry about who you are matter.
When you constantly convince yourself that you are not enough, you begin making decisions from that place of fear. You hesitate to chase opportunities because failure feels too painful. You keep your ideas hidden because you assume nobody will care.
You stop dreaming because disappointment feels easier to handle than hope.
Your mind needs care. You have to be intentional about the voices you allow into your life. The people you spend time with, the information you consume, and the thoughts you repeat to yourself all leave an impression.
Your head is where your future begins.
Then there are your legs.
The part of you that carries you forward. I think we underestimate the power of continuing. Progress does not always look impressive. Sometimes it looks like getting out of bed after a difficult period. Sometimes it looks like trying again after something did not work. Sometimes it even looks like taking one small step when you do not feel ready for a bigger one.
There were times I wanted life to move faster.
Oh, I wanted answers immediately.🥹
I wanted to know exactly where I was going and how everything would work out. But life does not always reveal the entire path before you start walking.
Sometimes you have to move with the information you have. Sometimes you have to trust that the next step will teach you something important. Your legs remind you that you are not trapped. Even when life feels confusing, you still have the ability to move. You can change direction. You can begin again. You can choose a different path.
Then there is your future.
The part of yourself you have not met yet.
Many people forget that the person they become tomorrow is connected to the choices they make today.
The habits they build, the things they learn, the risks they take, and the way they treat themselves all become part of the life waiting ahead.
Sometimes we become so focused on getting through the present that we forget there is a future version of us depending on the decisions we make now. I often think about the woman I am becoming and wonder what she will think when she looks back at this chapter of my life.
I hope she understands the moments when I felt unsure but still chose to continue. I hope she recognises the courage it took to make difficult decisions, protect my dreams, and keep believing in myself when everything around me felt uncertain. I want to become someone my future self can be so grateful for.
Someone who cared for her mind when life tested her confidence. Someone who kept moving even when the direction was unclear. Someone who believed there was still something beautiful ahead, even during moments when the future felt impossible to imagine.
The truth is, nobody can completely protect us from disappointment. Life will still surprise us. People will still leave. Plans will still change. There will still be days when everything feels heavier than expected.
But we can decide what those moments become.
We can allow them to convince us that we are finished, or we can use them as reminders that we are still growing.
Your head, your legs, and your future belong to you.
Protect them. Pay attention to the thoughts you allow to shape your identity. Be mindful of the direction you are walking towards. Remember that the person you are becoming deserves the effort you give today.
One day, you will meet the future version of yourself.
I hope she is proud of the way you kept going.
Be gentle with yourself. Pay attention to the way you speak to yourself. Keep choosing the things that move you closer to the life you want. And if these words found you at the right time, I wrote even more about the emotions behind them in my book.
Permission to Feel, Freedom to Live is a book about understanding yourself, naming the feelings you struggle to explain, and finding your way back to yourself after the experiences that changed you.
I wrote about the emotions many women carry but rarely talk about. The moments when we feel lost, overwhelmed, misunderstood, or disconnected from who we are.
I wrote these pages with so much honesty because I know what it feels like to have feelings you cannot put into words.
If my words have ever made you pause, helped you understand yourself better, or reminded you that you are not alone, I believe this book will mean something special to you.
My first book is officially available for preorder.
You can preorder your copy through the link in my bio at a discounted price before the offer ends.🤎
