The Res Fortes Merlot Madness 2022, from France’s southwestern Roussillon region, is a knock-out that deserves to be your House Red until the 2023 version hits our shores soon. Made all in stainless steel by estate owner Moritz Bak, the wine displays a very dark ruby-purple color and penetrating aromas of ripe raspberries and plums, permeated by scents of cranberry, mint and graphite; scintillating freshness and acidity keep you coming back for another sip, while that energy propels a fund of dark and spicy berry flavors through thickets of underbrush and loam, tapenade and cedar; all these qualities make for a dense, supple yet light-hearted red wine that drinks oh so easily. No kidding, go out and buy two or three bottles to get you through to the end of this month or early September when the ‘23 will be released. This would be a shoo-in for restaurant by-the-glass programs. Excellent. About $17, marking Great Value.
Imported by Franklin Selections, Nashville. Tasted with the winemaker in Memphis.
