Design Details: Hall & Stair Ideas

Recently I mentioned that a colour had sparked a lightbulb moment and subsequently a direction for the hall, and as I’ve not stopped thinking about it, I thought I’d share my ideas here today.

They say that as your hall is the first thing guests see upon entering your home, that it should give people a taste of what’s to come, and I guess therefore it also says a lot about who you are, which of course now has me wondering about what it is that I want it to say, and has in turn triggered some major overthinking as always, but it’s a fun mental exercise all the same.

I fear I might sound like a complete wanker if I actually wrote those thoughts out, and ultimately I don’t care if anyone else likes it and I’m not even sure I agree with the above sentiment - I get where it comes from, good first impressions yada yada yada, but surely, ultimately, and above all else, it’s only the residents of said hall and home you should be trying to impress, right?

Same for the much spoken about ‘curb appeal’ really. It reminds me of when I first moved to London and I couldn’t understand, why Ed, who despite having two housemates that were possibly a bit less sensible than him, had a front garden full, and I mean FULL, of neatly stacked empty booze bottles. Wine bottles mostly, peppered with beer bottles and the occasional spirits bottle. I would see the recycling being taken every week, but never the bottle collection. Back then we just had a big open crate for the recycling. I eventually asked him if he was holding on to them for some reason, and his answer was no, they had just become invisible to him as the recycling people never took them, and no, it had never occurred to him to ask them to. So the collection had just grown and grown as the then three big drinking house members added to it over the weeks and months.
