Bharat Chandar · What's Next

Welcome! I’m Bharat, a researcher with the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered AI and Digital Economy Lab. I have a PhD in economics from Stanford GSB and study technology through the lens of an economist. My past research includes studies on how technological change favors educated workers and how platforms like Uber use feedback and nudges to ensure quality service. I hope to offer a mix of insights from economics and computer science to make sense of how emerging technologies like AI will shape society. In the process, I may dabble in other fields like history and philosophy.

I hope to make my posts useful and accessible to business professionals, people looking to start ventures, general tech enthusiasts, policymakers, and academics.

Improvements in AI capabilities have led to uncertainty about what the world might look like in the coming years. At the same time business leaders dream about improvements to their operations, they worry about new technologies that may automate away their competitive advantage. Many workers use LLMs to learn new skills and automate boring tasks, but they also worry that AI may come for their job next. I hope to offer insights about the past, present, and future of technology and how it shapes society.

Topics will be motivated by practical applications in business, policy, and academia. Post frequency will vary with my schedule, but I aim to have about one per week early on, available for free.
