It’s been quite the eventful week for Red Sox fans, as they are now three games above .500 and have won 14 straight, turning the team from sellers into buyers. Internationally, Darwinzon Hernandez is working his way back from an elbow injury, and Yu Chang has missed some time. (Author’s Note: Statistics are current as of 7/20/26)
Last we checked in on Chang, he had a solid week, which included a couple of doubles. This past week, though, Chang only appeared twice, with a 0-3 outing on the 14th and followed that up with a 2-4 outing the next day, with a double and an RBI. Sadly for Chang, he hasn’t appeared since the 15th, and the reason for that absence is unknown, with no corresponding move announced.
Overall, Chang is still having a great year, and is slashing an incredible .315/.414/.550, with 63 hits and 11 homers in 58 games, and could be in line for an MLB return.
Bobby Bombs is officially back, as he had a monster week. It started last Tuesday, when he had a 1-4 game against the Tokyo Yakult Swallows. He then went on a rampage Wednesday, going 2-4 with 5 RBI, all of those coming by hitting home runs 14 and 15. Dalbec continued the RBI streak on Thursday, with a 1-3 outing. Another 1-3, 1 RBI performance followed on Friday which led into Saturday, where Bobby had YET ANOTHER 1 hit, RBI performance against Chunichi. Dalbec’s RBI streak would end on Sunday, but he would get 2 hits in a 2-4 effort on Sunday.
With another big week in the books, Dalbec is proving himself as a premier power bat, and is now batting .257/.328/.457 over 84 games.
After he struggled through a start in the minor leagues last issue, ( 2IP, 2 ER, 2H 1BB), Bryan Mata did not make an appearence this past week. A reason for this miss hasn’t become known to the public. Because of this, that leaves his farm line at an ERA of 3.00 and a WHIP of 1.23 through 57 innings pitched spread across 12 games.
Darwinzon Hernandez has returned to big league action after rehabbing from a left elbow injury, and because of that, it was a slow week for Hernandez. Becasue he is still working back from injury, he got one outing, and that came on Wednesday, where he had a clean inning, only allowing one hit. It was a solid comeback to the NPB, and he is easily working back to top form.
Through 26 games, Hernandez has 11 holds, 32 strikeouts, and a 1.11 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP.
Like most of the players here, Lin had a short week as well, only playing in two games. Lin provided most of his value on the bases this past week, stealing two bases on the 15th against the U-Lions, where he also went 1-3, with two walks. Then on the 16th, he also went 1-4.
With another mediocre week in the books, Lin’s batting average is up a point to .259, and his OPS takes a marginal jump to .656 over 59 games this year.
