Thank you all for making the book launch of The Crimson Throne so incredible! Sara and I loved meeting you all at our book tour stops and seeing all the love on social media. Truly you are the best part of this gig!
The fun is not over yet, though! I’ve got several events coming that I wanted to be sure to share!
First up, I’ll be hosting two delightful authors on two different nights in beautiful Greenville, SC at the lovely M Judson Books! On October 29th at 7pm, I’ll be hosting A. T. Qureshi, author of The Baby Dragon Bakery.
And then I’ll be back the following week on November 3, at 7:30pm with Jess Khoury and her wonderful The Moorwitch!
Then, on November 14, I’m going to be in Winston-Salem, NC, with Sara at Bookmarks Bookstore, hosted by the amazing S-Jae Jones!
Immediately after that, Sara and I are heading to the NC Renaissance Festival, November 15 and 16, for a weekend at the Faire, and we’ll be signing books the whole time!
And then I’m rounding out November in Denver, CO, at the NCTE Convention! As a former English teacher, this convention is one of my favorites. I will be speaking at the Modern Sci Fi panel on Saturday, November 22, from 4:15-5:30pm in room 607, at the Colorado Convention Center. I’ll also be at the Sourcebooks dinner, and signing from 2pm and then again at 5pm at the Sourcebooks book on Nov. 21, and at the ABYR booth on Nov 22, from 3:00-3:30.
And that is, thankfully, the end of my travel for the year! Although, if you’re a writer, I hope you consider joining me in February of next year for a fun writing retreat on the sunny and warm beaches of Mexico!
It seems like, after any book launch, the first thing people ask is: What’s next? That’s one reason why I always include the “What I’m Working On” section at the bottom of this newsletter.
But I thought I’d go into a little more detail this time:
Upcoming YA with Sara Raasch: Sara and I are pretty much done with the sequel to The Crimson Throne (and if you were with us on tour, you got to hear the title early!). But we’re also working on two more magical, historical romantasy novels—we’re currently in the planning stages for the next duology.
Upcoming Adult Romantasy: In early 2027, I’ll be launching my very first adult romantasy! This is a book I’ve loved for many years, and I’m currently deep into writing the sequel—both books will be done before the first one is launched, but that’s just a quirk of publishing schedules. This book is set in an alternate Viking-esque world where dragons are as common as dogs…although no one has seen a colossal dragon since the days of war. It is full of all my favorite tropes, and it has two chapters I will not allow my mama to read.
Paperback Edition of Chaotic Orbits & Upcoming Shorts: My sci fi fans, I have not forgotten you! DAW Books is creating a collection of all three of Ada and Rian’s novellas into one big paperback volume….with a brand-new short story adventure. I’ll tell you more about it when it’s done, but the new story is from Rian’s point of view, after he learns that Ada has been captured and is in prison… AND! I’ve got a short story in the upcoming OwlCrate anthology, Future States, that is all about a stranger who lands on a desolate planet and rights some wrongs…while also stealing some loot for herself ;)
Darkness Fills the Void and Global Quest: On Patreon, I write a chapter a week of a novel, with the intention of putting them together for ebook publication later. I’m a bit behind on edits for Darkness Fills the Void, a YA horror (more creepy than gory) about toxic friendships, but the cover is done (and Patreon has already gotten to see it!), and I’m only doing some finishing touches on formatting and extras. Meanwhile, Global Quest, a new adult adventure book about a girl who has to go on a treasure hunt for her inheritance, is well on its way to wrapping up the first arc soon!
And in the writing world that’s not books…
Idea to Finished Project: On Patreon, I’ve been posting a video a month with individualized lessons on each facet of developing a novel—from inception all the way to finish project. I’ve got ten videos uploaded now, and this series will eventually be released for the wider public in a web series.
Something New? Not to be a tease, but I might have convinced my Wordsmith Workshops co-creator into doing an amazing new project that is multi-media and absolutely going to be a lot of fun (and work, but fun work!). Be on the look out for it here: Wordsmith Workshops, Retreats, and News!
