Last Saturday at Beta Fund’s Hackathon was pure chaos in the best way possible. We had 200 builders packed into the room, and by the time the dust settled, they had shipped 68 projects in a single sprint. The energy was validated by a heavy-hitting judging panel—investors from a16z and YC founders sat alongside partners from Beta Fund and researchers from Nvidia and OpenAI to vet what’s actually next in tech. We saw a massive shift toward Physical AI, Vertical AI, and AI Memory, proving that the ecosystem is moving fast past simple wrappers and into deep, functional intelligence.
We ended up giving away $30,000 in prizes, and honestly, the highlight of the night was seeing two 16-year-old high schoolers take home a piece of the pool. It’s a wild reminder that in this environment, if you can build, age doesn't matter. The quality of the demos coming out of these 24 hours shows exactly why the Bay Area remains the center of gravity for AI. We’re just getting started—onward to the next one.
