Streaming conquers all

As Internet TV streaming comes of age and You Tube overtakes TV and all else in viewing figures it seems impossible to believe that the birth of Internet TV streaming was only 30 years ago, and that it came from the dream of one man.

The launch of the world’s first STB connecting the TV to the phone line was carried out by the small start up company Viewcall in London in June 1995 and then at CES in January 1996. Its imitators products - Oracle’s Network Computer NC and Microsoft’s Web TV came a year later.

The story for the early battle of the streaming market and its consequences are related in the previous untold story of the creation of Internet TV by its inventor in the recently self-published memoir titled -Mr Internet TV the Ego and the Id.

It is the account of a lifetime in media and movies including the control of British Lion Films and Shepperton studios and the creation of the UK’s largest video rental chain and of Viewcall’s battle to survive against the ruthless rival competition of those that would take both its product and its laurels by stealth. Mr Internet TV the Ego and the Id is not just a vivid and candid account of the life of an inventor and creator but it is one for the record in its place in media and entertainment history.
