It’s time to launch in the home stretch with the hopes that at least one of these selections will perhaps stir even the Scrooges and Grinches among us:
#35 - Away in a Manger (Choir of St. John’s College, Cambridge): Then, now, and always, it’s the less-sung Kirkpatrick melody for me. I love this placid setting.
#34 - Mary Had a Baby (Moses Hogan Chorale): You need a capable and convincing soprano like the one here to shiver the spine with this African-American folk piece.
#33 - Joy Has Dawned Upon the World (BJU Choir & Orchestra): A modern Christmas anthem, penned by the Gettys, to rival some of the classics sung from the pews.
#32 - Angels We Have Heard on High (Lindsey Stirling): Not an easy call to select a version that omits the “Gloria” vocals, but this is an energetically beautiful take.
#31 - White Christmas (The Drifters): Where doo-wop meets the winter holiday, it’s a true spirit-lifter, whether you enjoy the season’s snowfall or not.
