becoming that girl · becoming that girl

i’m frustrated.

you know that feeling you get that you aren’t really good at anything,

or you don’t know yourself enough as a person?

i feel like everyone has a thing - someone is an artist, someone is a great athlete, someone is super crazy about anime and collects figures.

everyone seems to have a passion for something in life,

but i can’t seem to find mine.

sure i have interests and hobbies,

but i don’t feel good enough at them to be that person.

you ever feel like a background character in your own life?

like someone who’s just barely there, a shadow of everyone else.

not interesting enough for anyone to involve themselves with.

yeah, that’s me.

but i feel like that’s something you have to overcome,

after all, the only person you have to live with is yourself.

and i realized that if i’m going to change the narrative,

i have to start by actually showing up.

i’m tired of watching from the sidelines,

and i have a feeling some of you are, too.

i recently stumbled across this reflection exercise, and i wanted to share it.

i’m still working through mine, and i’ll post my results soon,

but for the time being,

i wanted to give you a chance to work on your own thoughts.

the themes for each page of this reflection journal are:

1. goals: write them in artistic detail.

2. reminders & affirmations: focus on the person you’re becoming, your motivations, and your mindset.

3. visualisation: imagine a scene of your ideal life. write it and feel it in detail, specificity, and vividness.

4. inquiry: a list of questions that are important to you or your goals to answer today.

5. presence: write how you feel in the moment, and what you see in the space around you.

6. synthesis: go back to page 4 and answer those questions now that you’ve checked in with yourself.
